Mohawk Valley Featured Farm: Empty Pockets Ranch
Each week, Mohawk Valley Today highlights farms in our region as part of our agricultural program. We do this not only to support farmers, but to let residents and visitors know where they can get fresh, locally grown food for their table. With so many growers and producers throughout the valley, We still have a lot of work to do! This week during Mohawk Valley Gives, please donate and support our mission. Today, we’re excited to share our featured Mohawk Valley Farm – Empty Pockets Ranch.
About Empty Pockets Ranch
Empty Pockets Ranch is a veteran, family-owned and operated farm in Cobleskill, NY. What began as a dream of family homesteading quickly morphed into a full-time business and lifestyle. Lori grew up on Long Island and always had an interest in farming, and met Josh in 2013, who served 10 years in the Army and never experienced farming while growing up. Lori introduced Josh to horses, goats, chickens, and growing vegetables. Even though it’s not what he grew up with, Josh found farming and animal husbandry quite cathartic, and together they decided to purchase a historic farmstead in Lawyersville.
Empty Pockets Ranch
Empty Pockets Ranch started out with homesteading and farming with 2-goats, 25 chickens, 2 livestock guardian dogs on an abandoned 96-acre farm. What started as a personal passion developed into a thriving business that includes an onsite farm store, a commercial kitchen producing frozen take away meals and other products, u-pick flowers, festivals and so much more!
