The Village of Herkimer to hold Public Information Session

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023 at 7pm at VFW Post 4915, 131 Mohawk Street, Herkimer, NY 13350.

The purpose of the meeting is to solicit public comment, input, and engagement regarding the Village’s plans for downtown revitalization.

The Village of Herkimer is currently working on an application to New York State to be designated a Downtown Revitalization Initiative/New York Forward community. The overarching goals of the two programs are to revitalize downtowns and reinvigorate local and regional economies by creating a critical mass of vibrant downtown destinations in each region.

Winning communities are assigned a consulting team by New York State Department of State (DOS) to guide the community through the process of developing a Strategic Investment Plan that includes multiple complementary projects. The plan and projects are driven by both a Local Planning Committee and extensive community outreach and engagement. Once the Plan is approved, DOS and an expansive team of agency partners implement the projects expeditiously. The programs have achieved remarkable results igniting a renaissance in downtown revitalization throughout New York State.

The due date for the applications is September 29th, 2023.

This public information session will assist in the application development and provide guidance to the Village on the community’s vision for downtown revitalization.
