Each week Mohawk Valley Today receives event submissions from libraries and nonprofit organizations along with cities, towns and villages.

When organizations send us their events, we add them to our website’s regional event calendar. This makes it easy for organizations to get the word out about the events open to the public while making it easy for folks to find out about what’s going on in the Mohawk Valley. Here’s a few of the events we’ve received the latest on:

4th Annual Frankfort HarborFest – Saturday September 21,2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. at the Frankfort Marina

This year is the 4th Annual Frankfort HarborFest which is a Mohawk Valley celebration at the Frankfort Marina in Frankfort, New York. The event will be held on September 21st commencing at 10:00 a.m. and concluding the night with a fireworks extravaganza around 10:00 p.m. This is a FREE admission event for the whole family which features live musical entertainment from the Mohawk Valley’s top musical artists, a vintage car show, a kids’ zone activity area, food trucks, a farmer’s market, beer and wine, fireworks and more! The live musical line-up starts at 11:00 a.m. on the Mastrovito Hyundai Stage and continues up until the fireworks. This year’s spectacular line-up includes DJ Ease One, Max Scialdone, Grit N Grace, Gridley Paige, Soul Injection, Shawn Smith, The Posers and Central New York’s premier band, Show Me, headlining the event.

Last year’s Big Dog Motors vintage car show brought entries from all over Central New York and is expected to be bigger this year. The farmers’ market will include vendors from the weekly Saturday Frankfort Farmer’s Market plus many more. Food and beverage will be available from the Mohawk Valley’s favorite food trucks. The Heelpath Brewery is located within the Frankfort Marina and will be serving its amazing craft beers. And new this year, The Beer Garden, featuring Fratello’s, The Brass Tack, Perri’s Pub & The Frankfort American Legion Post #845 which will be serving beer, wine and seltzers. Opening Reception for “Illusions & Alchemy” by Angela DeCarlis

4 Elements Studio is thrilled to present “Illusions & Alchemy,” a captivating art show curated by renowned artist Angela DeCarlis. The opening reception for this exhibition will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 6:00 PM at The Westwood, located at 167 Genesee Street, Utica, on the Lower Level. Guests are invited to enjoy light refreshments and a cash bar as they immerse themselves in Angela’s transformative artwork. “’ Illusions & Alchemy’ reflects my personal journey of self-growth and exploration. Through this body of work, I delve into the process of overcoming illusions and preconceived notions I once held about myself, as well as societal expectations,” states DeCarlis. Balloon Twisting with Bippy

UNITY HALL PRESENTS “BALLOON TWISTING WITH BIPPY” FREE CHILDREN’S PROGRAM SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 AT 3PM

(Barneveld, NY –) If your child would like to learn how to turn an ordinary balloon into an array of animals and fun-filled forms, now is their chance! On Sunday, September 22, Unity Hall is presenting “Balloon Twisting with Bippy” a FREE children’s event led by this lively and experienced balloon twisting artist! The program will take place from 3-4PM at historic Unity Hall located at 101 Vanderkemp Ave in Barneveld. Bippy will teach children how to transform balloons into dogs, rocket ships, swords and more! The balloon twisting fun will conclude with ice cream sundaes for all! This free event is open to children ages 5-12 and reservations are required. Walk and Talk at the Old Forge Library

All are invited to “Walk and Talk” with friends and neighbors on a weekly basis, each Tuesday starting September 24th at 1:30 pm. The group will meet in the joint Old Forge Library and Niccolls Church parking lot at 220 Crosby Blvd. Niccolls Nurses conceived the idea as a way to provide both socialization and movement to those interested and the library wanted in on the action. The many benefits to be had by walking and talking include controlling blood pressure, lowering risk of chronic disease, maintaining healthy weight, fighting cancer, improving heart health, enhancing mental health, boosting mood, reducing stress, strengthening bones and being happier because you are socializing with fun people. Walk and Talk Tuesdays will take place through November 26. There will be a group leader on hand and distance and pace will be adjusted to be comfortable for each walker. The Old Forge Library will have pedometers available to anyone who would like to keep track of steps from mid-September through Thanksgiving.

Herbal Studies Group at the Old Forge Library: Mallow

Wild Infusions Herbal Study Group led by Jessica Maureen Hinsdill of Wild Soulstice, LLC. will meet at the the Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd., on Tuesday September 24 at 6 pm. On September 24, the group will discuss Mallow, its uses and many potential health benefits. This remarkable plant has antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and is considered one of the most promising herbal medicinal species. The study group sessions focus on plants that many think of as weeds and are found throughout the Adirondacks. Hinsdill studies with the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine. The study group sessions are a great avenue to create a circle of support, a place to reawaken a culture of wellness and rekindle the confidence to “nourish ourselves, our families, and our community.”  The monthly sessions are free and open to the public.
