The NYS Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) provides state funding to New York communities to foster vibrant downtowns across the state. Each year, communities in each of the ten economic development regions are selected for their significant redevelopment potential. The ultimate goal of the DRI is to fund projects that will help transform downtowns into vibrant communities where New Yorkers want to live, work, and raise families.

In December 2021, Governor Hochul announced Gloversville as a Round Five DRI awardee for the Mohawk Valley. The City will receive $10 million in funding to develop a Strategic Investment Plan and implement key catalytic projects that advance the community’s vision for revitalization. The DRI is guided by a Local Planning Committee (LPC) comprised of local stakeholders including community leaders, business owners, and members of the public with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The LPC provides comprehensive oversight to the development of a Strategic Investment Plan which will identify, describe, and recommend transformative projects for DRI funding to the state.

The meeting will review the drafted plan including the community’s input gathered since the award’s announcement as well as the City’s evolution over the same timeframe. The finalized Strategic Investment Plan, slated for submission to New York State in July, will include updated challenges and opportunities in downtown, DRI goals and strategies, project evaluation criteria, projects recommended for funding, additional projects not recommended for DRI funding, and the program’s management and implementation structure. A question-and-answer session will also take place following the presentation prior to reviewing next steps in the submission process.
