Milk Quality, Understanding that PPD! & a Peek Into Future Milk Prices

Event will be held October 11th from 10:45 A.M.to 2:30 P.M., in Oneonta.

HERKIMER CO., N.Y. — Cornell Cooperative Extension’s (CCE) Central NY Dairy, Livestock, and Field Crops Team (CNYDLFC) in collaboration with CCE of Delaware County, the Watershed Agricultural Council and Worcester Creameries is hosting a meeting for area dairy producers. The program features Dr. Christopher Wolf, the E.V. Baker Professor of Agricultural Economics at Cornell University.

He will discuss how the farm milk price is determined and how to understand that Producer Price Differential (PPD).

After lunch Dr. Mike Zurakowski DVM, from Cornell’s Quality Milk Production Services (QMPS) program, will discuss how dairy producers can lower their somatic cell count and keep it low. Some milk quality premiums still exist and producers should be able to capture them.

The final speaker will be Dr. Christopher Wolf. He will discuss what dairy producers can expect from future market conditions and what the likelihood of Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) payments will be.

Registration is required by October 5. Cost is $10 per person and includes lunch.
