More than 150 Donors Help Reopen Francis Skinner Municipal Pool
July 1, 2026 (LITTLE FALLS, N.Y.) – More than 150 donors contributed $118,538 in just four months, making it possible for the Francis Skinner Municipal Pool to open for the 2026 season. The City of Little Falls invites residents to join city officials and community members for a celebration on Monday, July 6, beginning at 11 a.m.
Earlier this year, uncertainty surrounding the cost of operating the pool prompted residents to contact Herkimer Next, Inc. (Next). In partnership with the City of Little Falls, Next served as fiscal sponsor for a community fundraising campaign supporting pool operations and a facility assessment. Contributions came from current and former Little Falls residents, many now living across the country, as well as local businesses and charitable foundations, demonstrating the lasting connection people have to their hometown.
“Being part of this effort reinforces exactly why Next was created,” said Next Executive Director Michele Hummel. “We believe strong communities are built by connecting people, resources, and opportunities. We’re grateful to Mayor Deborah Kaufman, the City team, the Little Falls Historical Society and Museum for hosting the campaigns fundraising thermometer, and every donor and partner who helped make this possible. This campaign showed that when a community comes together around something it values, remarkable things can happen.”
Throughout the summer, the Francis Skinner Municipal Pool provides a safe place for children and families to gather. The pool welcomes approximately 75 to 100 visitors each day, making it an important resource for recreation, nutrition, and community connection.
“This pool represents so much more than a place to swim,” said Mayor Deborah Kaufman. “Growing up in Little Falls, I know firsthand how vital these summer months are for creating lasting memories, keeping kids active, and giving families an affordable place to cool off and connect. This pool has always drawn families from neighboring towns across the regions, strengthening the bonds that make our community so special. I want to thank NEXT for doing an extraordinary job rallying donors and getting the word out. Seeing so many people come together to keep our pool open is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when our community unites.”
The Francis Skinner Municipal Pool, located on Burch Street, is open from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday, and closed on July 4, 2026. Lifeguards are on duty during all operating hours.
