RPIC IN REVIEW 2022-2023

What is RPIC?

The Rural Placemaking Innovation Challenge (RPIC) is a grant program of the USDA Rural Development Office. MVEDD was awarded in October of 2022 to fund outreach and planning work in four Montgomery County communities over two years: Fort Plain, Nelliston, Palatine Bridge, and the Town of Minden.

What have we been doing?

Our office has been working with local partners to convene a steering committee. We developed a survey to collect feedback from community members about what kinds of projects we could help to pursue.

What’s next?

Year 2 of RPIC requires each of the  four communities to select a placemaking project, and create a plan to pursue funding. We’ll also be hosting at least 6 more community workshops, covering topics like:

  • Grant resources and loans for small businesses and non-profits
  • Upgrading social media presence
  • Comprehensive plans
  • Transportation planning
  • Rural broadband access
  • Downtown Revitalization Initiative/NY Forward grant programs
