Mohawk Valley Museums shares the work of museums and historical societies as they continue to uncover our local history. The site has incorporated several newly added features to the website. These new additions will help spread the word about our area’s rich history, events and the ongoing work of historians, museums, and historical societies across the Mohawk Valley.

This Day in Mohawk Valley History

This feature highlights Mohawk Valley history, historical events and happenings of the past. This regularly updated column shares the story of the Mohawk Valley as told through local archived newspaper articles, published works, and other sources. 

Wampum Chronicles Writing Series

Mohawk Valley Museums is excited to announce the start of a very special writing series featuring history and research from the Wampum Chronicles. This writing series is the work of historian, author and artist, Darren Bonaparte. Mr. Bonaparte is a cultural historian from the Akwesasne First Nation. He is a frequent lecturer at schools, universities, museums, and historical sites in the United States and Canada. Additionally, Darren has written four books, several articles, and the libretto for the McGill Chamber Orchestra’s Aboriginal Visions and Voices. Darren is a former chief of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. He is the creator of The Wampum Chronicles and historical advisor to film and television.
